CHECK IN THE MAIL.    JERRY HEINZEL'S NAME WAS DRAWN FOR $220 IN THE ATTENDANCE DRAWING AND HE WAS NOT PRESENT TO COLLECT, SO THE JACKPOT GOES UP TO $230 FOR THE MAY 4TH DRAWING.

TRANSFERRED FROM POST 729 TO POST 75, MAQUOKETA.     POST 729 IS
THE "HOLDING POST" AND IS FOR MEMBERS WAITING TO TRANSFER TO
ANOTHER POST IF THEY WANT TO.    GLAD BOTH WILL BE OFFICIALLY 
MEMBERS OF POST 75.

MAQUOKETA IS ONE OF THE FEW LEGION POSTS WITH A "BURIAL FUND".
WHEN SOMEONE JOINS POST 75, THE FIRST YEAR, THEY ARE IN THE
"BURIAL FUND" BUT NO MONEY FOR BURIAL.    AFTER THE FIRST YEAR, THEY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR $100 BURIAL PAYMENT TO SPOUSE OR HIS/HER FAMILY.   STARTING THE SECOND YEAR AND THEREAFTER, THEY LIKE ALL
MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE $200 FROM THE BURIAL FUND AFTER THEIR
FUNERAL.   IT AUTOMATICALY IS PAID TO THE FAMILY, OR TO THE FUNERAL
HOME.


THE MARCH 2, 2016 MEETING WAS HELD WITH 6 PRESENT, INCLUDING LEGIONAIRE MAYOR DON.  THE MAYOR ASKED FOR A DONATION AGAIN THIS YEAR BY THE POST FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE STUDENT TRAP SHOOTING PROGRAM IN MAQUOKETA.     MAQUOKETA HAS SOME OF THE BEST SHOOTERS IN IOWA.   THE POST VOTED TO DONATE $500 AGAIN THIS YEAR.       SINCE THERE WAS NO MEETING IN FEBRUARY, THERE WAS A DOUBLE DRAWING FOR POST RAFFLE WINNERS, 8 INSTEAD OF THE USUAL MONTHY 4.   EACH GETS $25 CASH.   NAMES DRAWN:   FROM MAQUOKETA, DUANE KAZINSKI, DAVE NISSEN, LUCAS IHRIG, JANET SAUNDERS, PICKLE EDWARDS, AND RUTH JORGENSEN AND FROM WILD WOOD ACRES, JOHN SCHMIDT.    THE NAME DRAWN FOR THE ATTENDANCE JACKPOT ($210) WAS EDWIN YOUNG AND SINCE HE WAS NOT AT THE MEETING, NEXT MONTH THE JACKPOT WILL BE AT $220.

COMMANDER JOHN SAID HIS GOAL IS ONE NEW
MEMBER (OF 48 POSTS IN DISTRICT) IN EACH POST BEFORE DECEMBER 31ST.    NATIONAL LEGION 
HAS VOTED TO RAISE DUES $5 EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016.   THAT WILL RAISE MAQUOKETA'S DUES FROM 35 TO 40 DOLLARS A YEAR.    HE ALSO STRESSED ATTENDANCE.
MAQUOKETA HAS AROUND 125 MEMBERS AND
AN AVERAGE OF 4 TO 7 ATTEND A MEETING AND
DUBUQUE HAS OVER 700 MEMBERS AND AN
AVERAGE OF ONLY 25 ATTEND A MONTHLY MEETING.    HE SAID THIS YEAR'S DISTRICT
CONVENTION WILL BE ON SATURDAY ONLY, OCTOBER 3RD AT COGGON.    IT WAS  NICE HAVING
THESE TWO FINE GENTLEMEN AT OUR MEETING
LAST NIGHT.

MEET OUR COMMANDER
GERALD "JERRY"  WEIS was elected Commander at the April 1, 2015 meeting to replace Doug Winegar.   Doug has been Commander for nearly 2 years and resigned because his wife Shirley has health problems and will require his daily attention.   Jerry is a retired mailcarrier, and volunteered for the draft and
was in the Army in 1971 and 72, serving mostly at
Ft. Carson.   His wife is Mary and they three children, 2 sons and a daughter.
