THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF POST 75 WAS HELD ON
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 12, 2019 AT THE TIMBER CENTER NEXT TO
BOWLING LANES IN MAQUOKETA.    AROUND 150 LEGIONAIRES,
AND VETERANS AND SPOUSES ATTENDED THE EVENT FROM 6 UNTIL 8 P.M.   THE FREE HAM/CHICKEN DINNER WAS SERVED AND THEN
THE PROGRAM STARTED.
THE HEAD TABLE.   AT PODIUM, POST 75 ADJUTANT CLIFF MERRICK.   TO  HIS RIGHT, DARK HAIR, BONNIE MITCHELL, CURATOR OF THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND GUEST SPEAKER.
SHE WAS A MILITARY WIFE FOR 34 YEARS, WIFE OF THE LATE BRIG. GEN. CHARLES MITCHELL.    AT MERRICK'S LEFT, POST 75 COMMANDER GERALD WEISS.    MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT BY AN EAST DUBUQUE

TO IOWA, HE WILL RETURN TO WORK THERE.   HIS WIFE DIED IN

HAS VOTED TO RAISE DUES $5 EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016.   THAT WILL RAISE MAQUOKETA'S DUES FROM 35 TO 40 DOLLARS A YEAR.    HE ALSO STRESSED ATTENDANCE.
MAQUOKETA HAS AROUND 125 MEMBERS AND
AN AVERAGE OF 4 TO 7 ATTEND A MEETING AND
DUBUQUE HAS OVER 700 MEMBERS AND AN
AVERAGE OF ONLY 25 ATTEND A MONTHLY MEETING.    HE SAID THIS YEAR'S DISTRICT

GERALD "JERRY"  WEIS was elected Commander at the April 1, 2015 meeting to replace Doug Winegar.   Doug has been Commander for nearly 2 years and resigned because his wife Shirley has health problems and will require his daily attention.   Jerry is a retired mailcarrier, and volunteered for the draft and
was in the Army in 1971 and 72, serving mostly at
Ft. Carson.   His wife is Mary and they three children, 2 sons and a daughter.

AND THE FLAGS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN AT A5:30 P.M. ON MONDAY, MAY 25TH AND HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.
